Of course, with so much time to spare in which we have to entertain ourselves, boredom seems to be inevitable. But, there are certain things you can do to kill time and overcome that boredom. And because I’m a nice person 😉 and I don’t want to leave you in that boredom, I am kindly listing some things you can do during those moments.
GoogleFeud is a game that I saw in a Youtube Gaming Video – yes, I do have hobbies. The concept is so interesting and funny, I can play it for hours.
How the game works: You know when you are in Google and you look something up, like: How to… and Google shows you, in the search bar, some possibilities based on popularity that you might want to say, which you then, if you find what you want to type, don’t have to type yourself? That is what GoogleFeud asks you to do: guess what those “suggestions” are (it’s hard to explain, I’m sorry).
There a few categories: Culture, People, Names and Questions. But to really understand what it is and how much fun it is, you just have to play. I promise, it’ll keep you entertained for at least a little while.
GO ON A WALK
If you are bored and lack inspiration, going on a walk may be the best thing to do. Instead of trying to kill time inside, walking makes you think and can give you inspiration. It may sound incredibly stupid, but most people find walking very relaxing.
If you are more of a sporty type and have been wanting to get in shape for the summer (little late for that now) you can also go for a run. Being outside and breathing fresh air can be enough for you to be productive instantly or at least want to do something.
LISTEN TO UNFAMILIAR GENRES OR ARTISTS
When you’re bored, listening to music is something I tend to do most, just because it kills time and is something I can usually enjoy myself doing. Something that I have been enjoying, is listening to songs I’ve never heard before, artists I’m not familiar with and genres that I don’t usually listen to.
So, down here a list of artists you might not yet know:
> Banks (Waiting Game & Begging for Thread)
> Flume (Holdin On)
> Kimbra – whom you might know from Somebody That I Used To Know (90s Music)
> Ryn Weaver (OctaHate)
> Chet Faker (Talk Is Cheap)
> Hozier – whom you might know from Take Me To Church (Work Song)
> London Grammar (Hey Now)
> Tame Impala (Elephant)
> Jhene Aiko (The Worst)
This website is something like GoogleFeud, though it is much less like a game, and more like a brain training. I, being the nerd and loser that I am, love brain games and the challenges these kinds of programs give you. Lumosity is a fun way to kill some time with their Brain Games. You can even see your progress if you do it regularly!
READ A BOOK
Yes, I know, you’re probably rolling your eyes right now, because isn’t this a cliche? Well, yes, it is, but it is actually quite a lot of fun to read and when you’re bored anyway; does it really matter? You can go to a library and just pick some that seem interesting to you.
Here are some titles though, that I have been enjoying a lot, in case you’d prefer someone picking them for you:
> Me Before You – Jojo Moyes
> My Not-So-Perfect Life – Sophie Kinsella
> Rachel’s Holiday – Marian Keyes
> Black Swan Green – David Mitchell (it’s such a classic)
> The Curated Closet – Anuschka Rees (for the fashion lovers)
When you’re bored, sometimes the only solution to overcome that sense of unproductiveness, is to think about times you did productive, or at least fun, things. It’s a great way to think about everything you’ve done and accomplished, and people you might want to repair contact with. Plus: it’s so much fun to see the foetus-you.
CREATE A NEW RECIPE
Sometimes, the left-overs from a Sunday roast or those spices you once bought but never used can really come in handy. Maybe you always have a full freezer and it’s time to do something about it. Creating new recipes is both fun and interesting to do, because you need to think about flavour combinations, colours and things your partner, friend or family might like.
A result of one of these inspiring moments for me, is my last blogpost, when I made a “summer drink”. God, am I happy I invented that 😉 .
WRITE YOUR BUCKET-LIST
It’s something that a lot of people want to do, and a lot of people have actually done it. At the moment, I’m busy creating mine too, but it’s hard to think of things I’d probably want to experience in twenty years as well, and not just now.
There are lots of people online who’ve shared theirs, and you might find it very interesting and inspiring to read some of them. Even if it doesn’t warm you up or doesn’t make you want to do any of those activities, you might feel a little more productive afterwards.
GROOM YOUR PET
If you have a dog, cat, guinea pig, hamster, mouse, tortoise, snake or any other animal, it’s important to give them attention, because while you may have friends and school and work and other things to do, your pet’s only got you. So, give your pet a little pat – haha, no pun intended – and make them feel loved. I mean, you do love them, right?
So, that’s the end already. I hope you’ve enjoyed this blog post and it’s helped you in some (weird) way, or at least entertained you for the time being. All the love, x.
